UN appalled by India’s disregard for migrant workers


World Bank photo LONDON/GENEVA: The United Nations Special Rapporteurs are appalled by India’s disregard for the well being of 100 million internal migrants who are suffering from intense hardships after transport services were closed across the country and many of them were forced to travel long distances on foot. The UN Special Rapporteurs on the right to housing, Balakrishnan Rajagopal, and on extreme poverty, Olivier De Schutter said: ?We are appalled at the disregard shown by the Indian Government towards internal migrant labourers, especially those who belong to marginalised minorities and lower castes.?
