India Opposition Leader pledges end to poverty by 2030

India’s main opposition Congress party’s leader Rahul Gandhi pledged to end poverty by 2030 by waiving farm loans, introducing a single sales tax and reserving a third of government jobs for women. In its manifesto, the party again committed to giving 20% of poor families across the country with a payment of 7,000 rupees ($1,046) annually to ensure basic income does not fall below $174.
