KARACHI: Dengue fever has affected over 200 Chinese who are working on a project in Karachi; however, the condition of the patients is stable, said sources. Provincial Minister for Health Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho has also confirmed the reporting of 200 dengue fever cases from one specific area of Karachi and said that the affectees are Chinese. Dengue fever is on the rise in Karachi as the result of poor sanitation following recent rains. Dengue has already claimed six lives this year so far, out of which, three were females. In 2019, a total of 1,500 dengue cases have been reported in Sindh province so far, 1,438 from Karachi alone.

Noted Pashto folk singer Hidayatullah passed away here on Saturday at his Peshawar residence, Kakshaal Qadeem, family sources confirmed. Bedridden since long owing to multiple health complications, including memory loss, the folk singer breathed his last, leaving behind two widows, two sons, and three daughters besides a large number of diehard fans. His funeral was offered at Sarhad Darul Aloom near Berasko Gate and he was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard at Dag Besood, Nowshera district, the same day.

Tom Hanks is to be honoured with a lifetime achievement award at next year's Golden Globe awards. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) said it was "proud" to give the actor the 2020 Cecil B DeMille award at the event on 5 January. Hanks won back-to-back Oscars, and Golden Globes, for his lead roles in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump in 1994 and 1995 respectively.

Sarmad Khoosat’s Punjabi film Zindagi Tamasha has won big at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival on Saturday. Khoosat’s directorial won The Kim Ji-seok Award, named after the festival’s co-founder and executive programmer who died in 2017, reported Variety. The film-maker shared the award with Indian director, Pradip Kurbah, whose film Market was also being screened at the festival.

Marvel has announced ten new films to be released in the coming decade, at Sandiego Comic-Con. The new films and characters set to make their debut on the big screen include Blade the vampire hunter, Shang-Chi and a female version of Thor played by Natalie Portman. Pakistani actress and host Veena Malik slammed former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh’s tweet criticizing PM Imran Khan’s speech at UNGA that highlighted the Kashmir issue. Singh pointed out the use of words like ‘bloodbath’ and ‘fight to the end’ in PM Khan’s speech and said it will only increase hatred between the two nations. “As a fellow sportsperson I expect him to promote peace,” he wrote.
